I regularly receive complaints from residents about the tacky and grotty presentation of some parts of Kingsway.
Council has been working to address this by partnering with traders to expand waste collection services in Kingsway such as by implementing a free cardboard recycling program for traders. We have also pioneered the successful ‘Monash Pride Crew’ concept which is a dedicated team of Council workers who work across Council departments everyday IN the Kingsway precinct to improve its look and feel.
However, I recognise that further improvement is necessary.
We all need to play our part in improving the way Kingsway is presented.
One tacky looking shop can reflect negatively on the rest of the strip. Similarly, litter or cigarette butts remaining on the ground can have the same impact.
We need to all work towards achieving a look and feel for Kingsway which sets it apart from Box Hill, Springvale, Chapel Street and other parts of Melbourne. Let’s work together to clean up Kingsway and present the tidiest and most inviting centre in Melbourne. This will be a key focus for Council over the coming years as the Transforming Kingsway project is implemented.
